CANNON ACADEMY of PERFORMING ART
'Birth of a Jazz Program'
[opened doors Thanksgiving November, 1993]
After presenting our first Christmas program in December 1993, this studio - lounge originally
located at Robert Rd. & Spouse Dr. in Prescott Valley, AZ
became known as the Cannon Academy of Performing Art. The academy teaching staff developed for private study consisted of Patti Bell/vocals; Clare Willey/piano,
(deceased); Mel Zelnick/drum, (deceased); Joel DiBartolo/bass-theory (deceased); Milt Cannon, saxophone. There were also clinics, master classes and (3) day 'Artist in Residence' programs with drummer Butch Miles and with the Ortega Family Ensemble, the New Mexico Mescalero Apache performers that were also featured in our 1994 Prescott College Concert in the 'Sam Hill Warehouse.' All of the Cannon Academy activities were enhanced by weekly Sunday living-room 'matinee' performances introducing various established professional performers to the Prescott Valley, AZ area beginning with Phoenix vocalist, Sherry Roberson.
